Krishna Pahadi, born in remote part of the country in Shankhuwasabha
district of Nepal, has been working as full time volunteer in the
field of human rights & peace movement for the last 20 years.
Involved in the Amnesty International[AI] movement in Nepal in the
1980s. Chair of Amnesty International Nepal Section from 1991 to
1996, in which time the structure received the full membership in
the AI movement attaining the section status & also expanded
significantly. He has worked for several international committees of
AI. Member of the International Standing Committee on Research &
Action, member of Asia Pacific Steering Committee & coordinator
for AI South Asia region.
Founding chair of Human Rights & Peace Society[HURPES] in 1996. Chair of
HURPES 1996-2004. Arrested more than 28 times while working
peacefully for human rights & Peace causes. Sat on fast -unto–death four times for the same causes.
Amnesty International adopted him as prisoner's of conscience
several times. First time Pahadi was arrested in 1989 in
Biratnagar while organizing demonstration for Human Rights. Second
time arrested in February 1990 in connection to pro-democracy
movement & released after 52 days of prison after
restoration of democracy in 1990. Then he led & founded
several human rights organizations & heavily involved in
campaigning activities for human rights, peace democracy,
social justice & non-violence.
Pahadi was again arrested on 9th of February 2005 by Royal
Regime headed by King Gyanendra after a Royal coup & spent 145
days in detention & released on 4th of July 2005. Later
again arrested by Royal regime on 19th January 2006 & released
after 97 days[25 April 2006] of detention after successful peoples
movement.
Krishna Pahadi is eloquent speaker & one of the main campaigner
for human rights peace & democracy & non-violence. Pahadi delivered thousands of speeches
& coordinated
thousands of programmes in connection to human rights, peace &
democracy campaigning activities.
Published hundreds of
articles in various newspapers & journals. Imparted training to
Police officers & government attorneys. Headed several research
missions on human rights & peace situations. Headed national
election observation team of HURPES consisting of 186 national
election observers as recognized by the Election Commission of Nepal, visited Sri Lanka as election monitoring expert during
general election 2000, Wrote more than one dozen dramas that
were performed in many districts of Nepal on human rights & peace.
Delivered speeches on many occasions at a national & international
level. Traveled to more than 25 countries in connection to human
rights & peace works. AI delegate to Second UN world conference on
Human Rights, held in Vienna in 1993. Was a participant at the Human
Rights Defenders' Summit in Paris in 1998 & Dublin 2002.Steering
committee[International] member-Coalition To Stop the Use of Child
Soldiers[2000-2002], Founding member of several national &
Regional Human Rights Organizations.
Krishna Pahadi addressed 3 dozens public meeting/programmes
& took part in another 3 dozens meeting in 8 countries of Europe,
America & Asia in 2005 October-November [52 days ] as part of
Krishna Pahadi Speakers Tour organised by Amnesty
International. During his visit he held meetings with
officials of foreign ministries in 6 countries in Europe & USA, meeting with Parliamentarians
& Human Rights Organizations.
Krishna Pahadi was awarded by honorary citizenship of
Termini Imerese city of ITALY [2005]
Krishna Pahadi was one of the founder
& leader of Citizens' Movement for
Democracy & Peace [CMDP] -July 2005-April 2007. Finally Pahadi distanced from CMDP on May 2007.
Mr. Pahadi was also a founding member of Human Rights
Organization of Nepal [HURON]- 1988 & has also served as the
central executive committee member & vice chair person of HURON.
Krishna Pahadi is a writer, published 3 Books.[Manma

Ra Bichar] of Radio Nepal for several years. Former Director Of
Amnesty International Nepal Section. Worked in the board of SARWANAM, the pioneer street drama group of the country.
University lecturer for the last 17 years. Senior Journalist of
Nepal. Served also as a media advisor to the Ministry of Information
& communication of Nepal. Founding member of HURON. Former editor
of several weekly magazines & national daily Rajdhani. Former
central committee member of Nepal University Teachers' Association.
Former Member of Nepal Literary Journalist Association.
Involved in trade union movement for more than 16
years. Human Rights trainer & researcher. Former vice chair of AI
Nepal Section. Founding member of HURON[1988]. Imparted training to
Police, teachers, local elected representatives, NGO's.
Served as a high school teacher for the last 18 years
& is
presently serving as the principal of a local secondary school in
the Jhapa districts of eastern Nepal. Involved in Human Rights
education.
