Biography of Krishna Kandel
Krishna Kandel
was born on 28 December 1960 in Baglung-Nepal, son of Tika Ram Kandel &
Shanti Kandel, studied Law having Bachelors' degree from Tribhuvan
University, Nepal.
1. Involvement in Human Rights movement:
Krishna Kandel was appointed as Press
Officer in Amnesty International Nepal Office in the year 1992.Later he
was appointed as Director of AI Nepal Section in 1995 and served till
1996. Krishna Kandel was elected as Chair person of AI Nepal National
Committee [1999-2001]. He had participated in a dozen international and
regional meetings/conferences on human rights.
Krishna Kandel is also founder member of
Human Rights & Peace Society [HURPES 1996], Member of first executive
committee of HURPES [1996-1998] and General Secretary of Second
Executive Committee [1998-2000]
2. Working as Journalist:
Krishna Kandel has been involved in
Journalism since 1979. First associated with
Rastra Pukar and Nepal Vani weeklies in
1979-1989.Later he was associated with current affair program of Radio
Nepal 'Ghatana Ra Bichar ' in 1993-94 and also headed this program
for one year in 1996.He also worked as Executive Editor of Jana Manch
Weekly [1996-1997].
In April 2001 he joined Rajdhani Daily
and worked as sub editor till November 2001 .He also worked as Chief
Editor of Rajya ko Rupantaran, a monthly publication of CPJS, 2007 and
Produced and Presented, Rajya ko Rupantaran, TV Program of CPJS, 2008.
He also worked as Executive Director of Center for Professional
Journalism Studies, Battisputali, Kathmandu, Nepal. He is one of the
Founder Member of Nepal Press Union- 1990. Editor of YOSAATA Weekly(may
2010 to September 2010)
3. Involvement in Human Rights,
Democracy & Peace Movement of Nepal:
Krishna Kandel has been involved in
democratic and human rights movement of Nepal .In this connection he was
arrested several times in the past.
He underwent
fast-unto-death in January (28 Jan. to 2 Feb 1997) opposing human rights
violation (abuses) and demanding formation of independent institute to
protect and promote human rights. The fasting was organized by Human
Rights & Peace Society.

Artist:
Krishna Kandel is an artist and
associated with renowned Drama group SARWANAM since 80's and performed
in various Dramas throughout country. He also served in board of
SARWANAM in past.
5. Author:
He is writer of two books, one poem
collection published in 1996 and another book on human rights in 1994.
6. Served as an expert in Prime Minister
Office:
Krishna Kandel was appointed as an
expert by the then Prime Minister S. B. Deuwa in his advisory team
[equivalent to first class officer in January 2002- May 2002.]
